One of my favorite methods of maximizing my wardrobe is to repurpose pieces. I’m always looking for multiple ways to style clothing, especially when it’s an item that I love wearing over and over again. What do I mean by repurposing your clothing items?
Well that is when you take one piece of clothing that is traditionally meant to be worn one way, and you remix it to wear it as something else.
Repurposing can be planned or it can be by mistake. For example, when I spotted this kimono sleeve tie waist wrap dress from BooHoo, I thought it was so cute that I picked it up in two colors. White and mustard.
When I received my BooHoo package, I opened it like it was Christmas morning, and began trying on all of my new pieces. “Uhhh, wait… is this supposed to be this short?” “Why is it so short?” That’s what I said to myself as I stared in the mirror at my pretty mustard dress.
Needless to say, I was bummed out about the dress not fitting properly. However, all was not lost. I did like this piece, so I decided not to send it back. I knew that I could easily throw on a pair of jeans or leggings and have a bangin’ top, just like that (snaps fingers).
Using clothing items in multiple ways is one of the most cost effective ways to maximize your wardrobe and get the most out of your pieces. Shorter dresses can easily double as tops. A long top can also be belted into a dress. Turning mini dresses into tops is only one of the ways that I remix my clothing items.

Here are 4 additional ways to repurpose the items you already have in your closet
- Pull your maxi skirt up high and wear it as a halter dress.
- Wear a long button up shirt as a mini dress.
- Put a blazer or sweater over a body-con dress. This turns your dress into a skirt.
- Wear a blouse or light sweater underneath a spaghetti strap dress. Now this dress is ready for all seasons
