Putting on my makeup is like therapy for me. When I sit down to my vanity and take the time to build my foundation, and choose my eye and lip colors, I feel like I’m creating a work of art.
While the process is soothing and enjoyable, the clean up- well, not so much. Cleaning makeup brushes is certainly not my favorite thing to do, but following the these quick and easy steps will make the process a little easier.
Step 1: Gather Your Brushes
Gather up all of your dirty makeup brushes and grab a dry towels. Lay the towel on the counter near your sink.
Step 2: Prep for Cleansing
For this step, you’ll need a cleanser to break up the makeup in your brushes. I like to use a soap bar for this step, however, you can also use an anti bacterial liquid soap or any soap bar of your choosing.
Step 3: Swirl and Scrub
Rinse your brush under the faucet to thoroughly wet the bristles. Be sure to keep the brush held with the bristles downward so that water does not back up into the ferrule. This could loosen the bristles of the brush and cause them to shed.
While holding the soap bar in one hand, swirl your makeup brush around on top of the soap bar in a circular motion. Rinse the makeup brush. Repeat this step until the water runs clear.
You can also use a brush cleaning mat for this process. These offer a little more texture to rub the brush bristles against. Simply lather up your makeup brush on the soap bar, then swirl your it around on the mat.
Step 4: Dry and Shape
Once your makeup brush is completely clean, squeeze the excess water out with your hand, remembering to hold the brush with the bristles downward. Shape the brush bristles into their natural shape and lay them on the towel to dry.
